Simon Marks

“B” was a labour of love for independent musician Simon Marks. Boarding a train in Perth W.A, bound for Melbourne, VIC to collaborate with Jason Bunn (Orchestra Victoria) and Ben Franz (The Waifs). Recorded in a day, in a kitchen in Brunswick , then up to 313 Studio’s on the N.S.W south coast to lay vocals/drum’s, mix and master, the project has covered some 5000+ km’s…….just another day for a West Australian based musician!
Simon’s musical career began in 2008 with an invite to perform as part of the West Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Fremantle W.A as frontman and songwriter of the group ‘MirandaFrame’. From there a self titled album sprung and perfromances around metropolitan Perth ensued. Going solo again and following a natural shift away from the blues and roots genre led to the formation of the ‘Simon Marks Tapestry’ , a three piece outfit with drum’s and fiddle that complimented the more delicate songwriting approach. Metropolitan, regional, and solo interstate/European gigs followed… with the then launching of the EP “The Furze” back in W.A
Calling the Shoalhaven home, having grown up in Terara, Simon is delighted to be a part of the ‘SongWaves’ project following on from the all female ‘SongBirds’ project as part of an expose’ of the many gifted, talented, hard working local songwriters. Recently ‘home’ again a recording his new single “Rather Be”, it was a treat to be able to work with musicians from local band Southerly Change (Ben and Matt) and include another local SJ Firkin on banjo from the SongBirds project on the single, a fine example of the connectivity projects such as these are bringing to the Shoalhaven!!
